The Visual Foxpro 9.0 Service Pack 2 upgrade is FREE to Maintenance Agreement customers running Visual Foxpro applications. The update must be initially installed from a CD-ROM. The CD-ROM installation loads the required Visual Foxpro 9.0 Service Pack 2 libraries. Service Pack 2 will enable Visual Foxpro to better support Microsoft Vista.

Vista Operating System Considerations:
The Public Government Software systems are installed, by default, in the folder PROGRAM FILES\SOFTWORKS\[APPLICATION FOLDER]. Each module is installed in a unique [APPLICATION FOLDER].
The Public Government Software systems currently write to several files in the [APPLICATION FOLDER]. User preferences for BROWSES and GRIDS are stored in files located in the [APPLICATION FOLDER]. Choices made on the System Variables forms and error logs are also stored in files located in the [APPLICATION FOLDER].
The System Update procedure (System menu) also utilizes files in the folders contained within the [APPLICATION FOLDER]. Current date structures are maintained in the NEWPEOMS folder. The System Update procedure checks the structure of the ACTIVE data file with the structure of the data file in the NEWPEOMS folder. If the structures are different, the ACTIVE data file is copied to the OLDPEOMS folder and the ACTIVE data file structure is updated. The PDFFILES folder in the [APPLICATION FOLDER] is the default location for storing PDF files created by the system.
In addition to the applications’ use of the Program Files folder, our Downloads also update files in the Program Files folder. When an update is downloaded from our web site, the application file is overwritten in the [APPLICATION FOLDER] with the new application file. The NEWPEOMS folder (current data structures) is also updated. This ability allows us to provide fast support/enhancements to our customers.
The UAC (User Account Control) feature of Microsoft Vista restricts users from updating files located in the PROGRAM FILES folder. We are currently evaluating this problem to find the best PERMANENT solution. If you currently have Windows Vista Operating System and you want to run the Public Government Software, you will need to use one of the following options:

Option 1. Install the program in an unprotected folder.
The default installation folder is PROGRAM FILES\SOFTWORKS\[APPLICATION FOLDER]. Remove PROGRAM FILES from the path and install to SOFTWORKS\[APPLICATION FOLDER].
This will allow you to run the programs and install updates from the Downloads page with no problems. You will need to change the default location for the extracted file when downloading updates (remove the beginning program files).

Option 2. Run the application with Administrator Rights.
Right Click on the Application’s Icon and select the Properties option. Click on the Compatibility tab. Check the box next to “Run this program as an administrator”.
This will allow you to run the programs with no problems. You will NOT be able to install updates from the Downloads page unless you remove the Read Only attribute from the Application file (PGSxV9.EXE) and any other files that may need to be updated.

Option 3. Disable UAC.
Click on the Start button and select Control Panel. Choose “User Accounts”. Click on “Turn User Account Control on or off”. Remove the checkmark beside “Use User Account Control (UAC) to protect your computer”.
This will allow you to run the programs and install updates from the Downloads page with no problems. It will also disable the new security features of Windows Vista. You MAY or MAY NOT want to do this:)
